A bit about Us & Flora...
Say hello to Flora May Hansen...the inspiration & namesake for the Flora May Foundation
The Flora May Foundation is a California 501c3 nonprofit organization. When you make a tax-deductible donation you’re directly supporting our continued efforts to help families in need.
Flora’s Mother (Celia Custard) was a petite & dedicated hospital volunteer, just like her daughter Flora and her granddaughter Debbie.
Flora found more (and creative) ways to give back to our community than volunteering at San Clemente Hospital. Mrs. Hansen had her OWN brand of philanthropy; delivering meticulously pre-pared “Necessity Food/Travel Packages” to those standing at a freeway exit and asking for money.
If not for Flora having raised 9 children, this might not seem as worthy, daunting, or inspiring!
By Flora Hansen’s selfless actions, she taught her children: No matter how busy we are, how little money we have…we can always help our fellow man. Flora May married Richard Hansen 69 years ago and moved to the very same town they spent their honeymoon in, San Clemente, California.
Flora & Rich would spend the next 67 years raising their 9 children, 30+ grandkids, and an expanding population of great-grandchildren. After all of their own kids were graduated & out of school, Flora spent the next 20 years working for Scantron. We’re not sure how she made the time, but Mrs. Hansen also volunteered at San Clemente Hospital, Los Ninos, and The Ladies Guild (for most of her life).
Flora May’s sparkling, highly infectious laughter and her legacy, will only continue to grow. The entire Hansen family is extremely honored, to call this tiny and indestructible woman, our Mother.
